Deliciously dreamy prose, Nadia.

Loved this sentence: "The three-headed man works in the laundromat downstairs, greeting visitors in riddles or proverbs of stranded times, of times unseen. Of a time that was once now."

Thank you so much Kathleen! I was listening to Silent Hill music while writing and this song somehow fit with the vibe.

Oh how wonderful! Your word images fold in on each other, bending my brain in a most welcome way. “What was earthed emerges; what emerges gets earthed.” Thank you for this spell bound walk through your wildly creative mind today.

Such a powerful fairy tale, and beautifully written. Thank goodness the girl can dream (I choose to believe she still can).

I mean it. I sometimes avoid short stories on Substack, but I wouldn't have minded if this one just kept going... :)

Hahah, I appreciate you. I don’t really know how to write short stories well. I prefer flash fiction, and the readers can continue the narrative with their imagination afterwards ;D.

Expand full comment

Oh, yeah, I guess this was flash fiction. Seems like I'll have to imagine the sequels myself :P

Hahaha. The cool thing about it, little Jamie could stay with her new friends or could go back to her family. You call the shots!

Expand full comment

I think she goes back, but then her new friends show up unexpected. And then, next time she is alone, they lead her deeper into their world.

See, I have the whole series planned!

It's a surreal place in this...so much that has you doing double-takes.

Why does this make me think of cake? A confection, that's what it is - a gorgeous, dark phantasy (see what I did there with the ph? 😘) Lovely stuff, my dear. 🖤
