Fascinating, thank you for these! #1 and #12 are my favourite. I quite want to insert "They say chickens are milked" into conversation now.

Hahah. I'm glad you like. After, I found out about the chickens idiom, I plan to use it as much as possible!

Fun for the child’s Russian lit phase!

Yess!!! Even as an adult, half of these I didn't even know about. Sheesh!

These are just the best. I'm going to print some of these because they made me smile so much.

"I will show you where crayfish spend the winter". I want to start using this.

"Even a hedgehog understands." Hehe. Poor hedgehogs. Maybe they're really smart?!

Hahaha! I am so glad to hear that. I imagine most animals are misunderstood, including the hedgehogs!

Love it. The literal translations had me laughing.

I can’t believe how much I love these idioms. I’m going to have to come back to this with some examples. Thank you!!!

How about: "Зачем змеиный базар развёл?" Literal translation: "Why did you open a snake bazaar?" Bazaar in Russian slang refers to a person or people babbling. When a person babbles for way too long one might say the babbling is as long as a snake. The next time you wish a person would just shut it already, try using this one!

Hahaha. I love that. I will use it one you sometime. 😝

That was fun. Thanks.

From my childhood - Ukrainian. "Nai tebe kachka kopne!” (May a duck kick you!).

Simply can't think of an equivalent English threat quite as devious.

Hahaha. I love that. Ouch! :D

These are always fun because in reverse our idioms must also sound so goofy... Here's one of my favorites, though it probably makes sense in any language: "You don't have to outrun the bear, just the slowest rabbit."

I suppose that's an aphorism more than an idiom, oh well 😅

It applies too!

I adore idioms almost as much as I adore animals, so it was quite enjoyable to read these. Thanks for sharing!
