It's a game I've always heard of but never got to play. Some of those old adventure games have really great worldbuilding and this seems like it may be one of the best at that. That "poetry salad mechanic" is a really charming touch to a game like that.
Aww, thank you! I’m so glad you like this. And maybe you’ll have fun playing the game, especially the poetry part. I had a blast replaying that segment each time.
Still remember how my friend called me Miksy Calavera when we played it on his PC. Never got as far as the Blue Room though. Perhaps Ill revisit it on PS4 when there is time.
Ahhh, so Manny hours sunk into this game! I hear there are those who have never played it... unfathomable. They must read this and play! We started the Remastered on the PS5 but some of the puzzles are not made for today's gamers. 😂 Bravo, Nadia you Malkoviched this one!
I'm quite offended by my readers who haven't played it or understood this love letter to the game. *Pouts* I'm joking! Thank you so much, my friend, I hope you enjoyed this. And I hope you both get to play it again and create some weird beat poems together.
This was so fun! I've never really played games like this, but this has really made me want to - absolutely love the reaper as a travel agent!! The people that invent these things are so brilliant. Thank you for the introduction ✨
The gameplay is quite dated, but this game has had so much influence on me ... I've played it so many times that I've lost count. I've got the original double CDs somewhere from the original '99 physical release.
Yes, the gameplay and graphics are so dated, even the remaster too. I still replay it all the time. I too have the original double CDs too. Haha. So cool!
I always thought the game would've been amazing had they gone with a 2D style like Curse of Monkey Island. Just imagine how it would look now! Oh well, I also admire the fact that they tried to make it different, even though I really loathe that early 3D look in games (like Broken Sword 3).
Anyway, I play the game as frequently as I can (though that's getting less and less as I get older), but for me it will always hold a special place in my heart - and it's so hard to explain why, which I'm sure you understand haha.
It's probably nostalgia in part, but also because it's just that good! I agree with you. It probably would have looked great as illustrated game and wouldn't have aged so poorly. I also didn't like how they went with 3D for Broken Sword. Thank goodness they stopped with that at Broken Sword 3. Did you play the latest Monkey Island game? It has a nice style, also 2D.
Sorry I didn't get notified of this reply - yes I played the new Monkey Island game. I'm not a huge fan of the art style but it certainly looks better playing it than in screenshots. I still don't like the design of LeChuck or any of the undead characters. But overall I absolutely enjoyed the game and I think the controls on console are innovative. It's a good game and I enjoyed my time with it. But I feel that so much 'media' these days are more meta than story, so self-referential, so 'aware' of itself as an artistic medium that they're failing to deliver a story. Do you know what I mean? The whole world seems to be like that right now.
It is certainly a different art style, but I give them props for trying something different. I like how point-and-click games are easy to play on console these days. Oh yes, you're absolutely on point with the self-referential and awareness stuff.
In regards to the art style: for sure. I'll always respect someone for trying something new, even if they 'fail' (and art is subjective). I liked how vibrant everything was. :)
I'm gonna snap my boney fingers for this one!

Lovely humorous read.

Hahah. Very cute nickname. You absolutely should. Such a fun game!

Made me smile all the way. I think it should be required play for anyone who likes video games (yes, there are those who don't like em!).
150%!!!

Thank you so much, my love. It's a special, unique game. If you need some distraction, it's the perfect remedy. <3
One of Manny 😆
Fond memories of this game as a kid. Thank you for stirring them with your writing, Nadia.
Punny, isn't it? Haha. I'm so glad you liked this. I encourage you replay it!
what a hoot! what a infinitely crazy, creative environment.
Haha! I appreciate your enthusiasm :).

I’m sure I will, I can’t wait 💕
How glorious! Very much looking forward to playing this tonight. Magnificent work as always 💕☠️
Oh thank you so much! I hope you'll have a blast playing it. <3
