The question, ‘Do the means of our absolution matter?’ has stayed with me. I was recently reminded of something I once read (in a book called Breathing Under Water, that’s actually about the Twelve Steps), and then again in regards to that question:
The preferred ego pattern is:
sin --> punishment --> repentance --> transformation
The grace pattern is:
sin --> unconditional love --> transformation --> repentance
I’m still trying to make the grace pattern my go-to, towards myself & everyone else. I manage it, sometimes. And on the occasions that I do it certainly feels better than the alternative. It’s a journey… Thank you, both, again, for offering so much to muse on!
Wow that is incredibly insightful. While I had the most incredible parents I certainly never learned or even could fathom the grace pattern. I'm very keen to learn about it more. Thank you Chloe for bringing to my attention.
It's so antithetical to what most of us were taught that I found it a bit dizzying at first. But, of course, any 'repentance' that comes in response to unconditional love as opposed to punishment is so different in nature and is, I think, likely to be more transformative.
Thank you for the piece! I look forward to reading more of your work.
I remember The Silk Road (dark web), having been close to tech since the 80s, operating our own BBS nodes before the internet even... I have not followed his case, though. It’s an uncomfortable truth...
Uncomfortable truth, in terms of what the Darknet (Tor is only one of many gateways) offers or even the "regular" internet, e.g. Instagram was in the news a couple of days ago concerning a certain ring, that starts with p. If you open the Arstechnica article on this topic, you can follow their link to the Stanford Study, and that's only "clearnet" stuff.
Yeh this is prob with crypto now...anarcho capitalism and its intersection with tech has a big problem, and when I see the young technologists getting caught up in it, I wonder how many of them started out idealistic and then took a wrong turn most recently looking at someone like Elizabeth Holmes
I'm very curious about the children she left going to prison. I wonder if she turns into a Ross Ulbricht type who turns to day ma to Buddhism and quiet meditation.
Wow. Having undergone a particularly painful week myself, this article really hit home. I never knew Ross's sad story, and hearing it now makes me even more aware of the time that we have in our lives, and to strive to make the best of it.
I'm sorry to hear, but glad we like minded ppl can share together and know there are others who support you through painful times. We will make it through!
There’s so much to think about here. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Priya! I appreciate you thinking along with me ;)
Definitely. Thanks so much for reading, Priya!
So much food for thought, here. Thank you.

That is fascinating! Thank you for reading and sharing that, Chloe!

Thanks Alexander! What do you mean by uncomfortable truth? Curious your take

Ooof, Holmes is diabolical, frankly, to me.
I'm very curious about the children she left going to prison. I wonder if she turns into a Ross Ulbricht type who turns to day ma to Buddhism and quiet meditation.
Time will tell!
That is disturbing. I did hear some unsavory stuff about Instagram. YouTube had stuff going on too not long ago.
I haven't heard anything about this until Rebecca wrote about it. You live, you learn!
Thank you both 🙏🏻
Thank you for joining us!
Thank you for reading, Satya!

I'm sorry you're having a rough time, Wendy! Thank you for reading. I'm glad this resonated with you, even if not in such great circumstances.
Me, too. Thanks for sharing it, Nadia.

Indeed we will!
