"She fought hard for this song, and she deserves to be celebrated again. Her whole body of work does." Amen, I could not agree more - and what a gift to hear your wonderful voice, Nadia!

Seriously, right? Thank you so much, Chloe. That is so sweet of you to say!

What a fascinating project! Learning/re-learning is never-ending for me as well, as I'd guess it is for most writers (and dog trainers, in my case). It makes life worth living!

I absolutely agree! Though I do find learning a bit tougher now than when I was a youngling. But not impossible, of course!

That is going to be one epic medley. Thank you, Nadia for letting us partake in that process. You mentioned Shenmue! I have Shenmue II incl the feature length movie on Xbox. So good. And yea, running up that hill... 80s music ;)

Thanks so much, Alexander, dear! Yessssssssssssssss, I have all three. It's a great walking, working, and fighting simulator lol. Isn't 80s music the best, THE best?!

Well, this version isn't too bad either! https://youtu.be/Mgv88ZLi6LY

My playlist for today had Chromatics in them, coincidence, eh?

That's hot hot hot. What a coincidence ;p.

I just stumbled on your Substack via Reddit, and it's given me a lot of hope as a relatively new writer on this platform. It looks like your blog is a smorgasbord of all your interests, which a lot of online writing gurus have discouraged me from doing. Seeing someone who's succeeded that way is tremendous! Thanks for being here xoxo

Hi Amelia! Thank you for your lovely comment. Oh yes, you can absolutely explore all kinds of subjects on this platform. I highly encourage it. It's quite freeing too, to not be limited by just one type of material. And while I didn't have engagement in the beginning, it grew over time. You'll do fantastic, just keep writing and being determined and patient!

I’m excited for the journey! Thanks for the encouragement :)

What I’m enjoying about your posts is how they’re encouraging me to get out of my familiar likes. Thanks for sharing, Nadia!

I appreciate you so much, Priya!

Eagerly awaiting your medley, Nadia!! Your clip gets off to your shy start but ends quite strong - set it to a little music and you've got a meal, no recipe required! ;) 💜💙💚

D'aww. Thank you dear, Troy! I'll try to open up a bit. It's hard not to be shy when the house isn't quite so empty lol.

Mash it up! Really looking forward to this and seeing how it evolves. Great selection of medleys.

Hadn't ever seen your "Peak Experiences" link, but so much yes to that. I'd never given it a term (or looked for one), but that's now going into my vocabulary. I will also be looking through the tracklist in there. I think writing and feeling whilst listening to music that elicits such feelings can be quite a revelatory process.

Thanks for sharing your recording, Nadia. I think you do an awesome job capturing some of Kate's special voice, whilst adding your own. I don't think there'd be many willing to share the process openly like this (I certainly wouldn't; my vocal chords refuse to attune to any sense of melody and pitch 😅), so go you for doing that.

Thank you so much, Nathan! I know, I'm baring my soul here, but sometimes I like to live on the edge LOL. I hope you'll enjoy the songs. And maybe create your own playlist to share with us ;-). Yes, when I discovered that term, I was blown away. It explained so much!

I liked the singing and a cappella is no easy thing. With music and a nice haunting melody it could be really cool. BTW, have you ever listened to Eva Cassidy?

Thank you, Weston! I'll try to manage with the piano next time haha. Oh yes, what a lovely voice she had.

Rooting for you all the way!

Thank you, Obed! Your support means so much to me!

wow, this is one heck of a challenge you are taking on, Nadia ... possibly more so because the tunes are SO iconic. 'Running Up That Hill' is one of very few tracks - in my opinion which, hey, may not matter in the grand scheme of things - where a cover version is (controversial, I know) *better* than the original. I am saying that the version by Placebo is well worth a listen. In fact, Placebo, one of THE best live bands I have seen.

Expand full comment

I know, it is going to be quite the challenge indeed! You're absolutely right now, I also like some of the covers more than the original. Placebo's is epic. Also I'm a fan of Within Temptation's version.

Expand full comment

Within Temptation is new to me - thank you - off to check that out.

Symphonic metal, if you're into that ;D.

Actually, pretty good! And, of course, I lose half an hour watching other music on YouTube!

Expand full comment

Hahaha. I know what you mean. If I start, ooof, I need to control myself.

Expand full comment

I'm having a quiet facepalm right now that I never made the mental connection that it was a cover 🤦‍♂️ Listened to a lot of Placebo, but little Kate Bush. Yes, that's the reason...

They made it their own!

Expand full comment

They sure did!

Expand full comment

Yes, it's so powerful!

Awesome. She was in a league of her own during her musically active years.

I listen to "Under the Ivy" at least once a week, and I love "This Woman's Work".

Expand full comment

I adore those as well! I hope she'll give us something new soon. But I know she takes time with her work, and it's worth the wait.

When was her last album, Nadia?

2011. The others don't count. :'(
